After 40, we lose muscle mass at a rate of 3-8% per decade. After 60, that accelerates. The result is the gradual loss of the things most people take for granted — strength, balance, energy, independence. The good news is that this process is not inevitable. Strength training is the single most evidence-based intervention for reversing muscle loss, maintaining bone density, reducing pain, and improving the physical independence that makes life worth living. It is never too late to start. And the results, even in people in their 60s, 70s and 80s, are often remarkable.
